Understanding a better look over time, let’s visualize the total counts between cases, hospitalizations, and deaths after taking the log value (this is only to scale the graph properly in order to see the relationship between all 3).

Let’s take one final look at the relationship between hospitalizations and deaths. This graph will show us how closely related the two datasets are. Ie: Do we expect to see hospitalizations rise at the same rate as deaths?

Weekly cases appear to have plateaued but is still down significantly since early January. While cases may fluctuate, it is more important to focus on the hospitalizations and deaths as a viable metric.

The news it quick to report any upticks in the data; but, have a tendency not to report the overall trend. The current trend in hospitalizations is still downwards, despite a small update at the end of March. The 50-64 age group has overtaken the 60-74 age group for weekly hospitalizations in early March.

Deaths in Washington State are still on a downward trend. Interestingly, we are seeing a shift in deaths from 80+ age group to 60-74 age group; still, the numbers are not concerning.

Cases are decreasing significantly in all across the country, we see the same trend below for our state. It appears we are approaching herd immunity in Washington State. (This is likely a combination of both natural recovery and vaccinations).

I cannot help but notice headlines in the media that are attempting to drive fear into more and more people. Let’s keep the public in fear and not mention the decline in cases, maybe the public won’t notice 😉 Take a look at one fear based headline below.
